About Steve Vanagas
A senior strategic communications and public affairs executive, Steve has extensive experience building brands and elevating organizational and CEO reputations in complex public environments. He served for more than eight years as Vice-President, Customer Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs at TransLink, where he built and led a high-performing team during a period in which the system became the fastest-growing transit network in North America, supported by industry-leading marketing, branding, and social media initiatives.
Previously, Steve spent 10 years leading communications, marketing, and public affairs at BC Hydro, one of North America’s largest integrated electrical utilities. There, he delivered a complete organizational rebrand and helped position the company as one of the Most Influential and Most Loved brands in British Columbia. Earlier in his career, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Premier of British Columbia.
His expertise spans issues management and crisis communications, stakeholder, community and government relations, corporate reputation, and reputational risk. He has led award-winning marketing campaigns and set new standards for customer experience strategy.
Steve began his career as a journalist, including as a member of the B.C. Legislative Press Gallery. He is a graduate of Simon Fraser University and holds an MBA from the University of Victoria. He has also earned the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
